Glenn Adamson

Glenn Adamson is currently Senior Scholar at the Yale Center for British Art. A curator and theorist who works across the fields of design, craft and contemporary art, he was until March 2016 the Director of the Museum of Arts and Design, New York. He has previously been Head of Research at the V&A, and Curator at the Chipstone Foundation in Milwaukee.

Jochen Amme

The author and collector (b. 1935) studied architecture and law and alongside his job as a lawyer has devoted himself for decades to the topic of historical cutlery in all its brevity and diversity from pre- and ancient history to the postmodern era.

Through his numerous publications, and numerous lectures (20th Arts and Antiques Fair Hanover, Museum of Applied Art Cologne, Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg, Museum of Decorative Arts Berlin, Kestner Museum Hanover, Deutsches Klingenmuseum Solingen), exhibitions (20th Arts and Antiques Fair Hanover, Kunstauktionshaus van Ham/Overstolzengesellschaft Cologne, Museum of Decorative Arts Berlin) and loans from his collection (Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg, Museum für Lackkunst Münster, Badisches Landesmuseum Karlsruhe, Castle of Heidelberg - Exhibition ‘Liselotte von der Pfalz/800 Jahre Heidelberg’, Draiflessen Collection/Brenninkmeyer Mettingen), this abundance of all of his activities the author and collector Jochen Amme has become well known in his art-historical specialist subject both among experts and to a wider public.

Trygve Ask

Trygve Ask is Senior Project Manager at Scandinavian Business Seating AS, owner of the office chair brands HÅG, RBM and RH. He is an industrial designer and dr. ing. (PhD) from Oslo School of Architecture and Design (AHO) with the dissertation Good Norwegian Design: The establishment of industrial design as a profession in Norway (Oslo, 2004). He is a visiting lecturer in design history at AHO.

Astfalck, Jivan

is a visual artist, jeweller and academic.

Born in Berlin, where she was trained as a goldsmith, she has been living in London for more than twenty years.

She obtained her MA in the History and Theory of Modern Art at Chelsea College of Art and Design and her PhD in Fine Art at the University of the Arts London.

Astfalck is now a professor at the Birmingham Institute of Art and Design, Birmingham City University and combines her studio practice, which she exhibits internationally, with teaching as the MA course director in Jewellery, Silversmithing and Related Products.

Her main focus and research interest is in using hermeneutic philosophy, literary theory and other appropriate thought models as tools to investigate narrative structures embedded in body related crafts objects.

In her view, the convergence of crafts, design and fine art practices is conductive to extending the theoretical vocabulary and mapping out new territories where crafts practices contribute to cultural production and dissemination.

studied Art History and Archaeology at the University of Amsterdam.

Liesbeth den Besten is an independent art historian who is working internationally as a writer, curator, advisor, jury member, exhibition maker, teacher and lecturer in the field of crafts and design, especially contemporary jewellery. She has curated exhibitions for different museums in the Netherlands and abroad. She is chair of the Françoise van den Bosch Foundation, and member of the AJF board. She teaches jewellery history at Sint Lucas Academy in Antwerp.

Dr. Patricia Brattig

Art historian, who studied art history, Romance languages and classical archaeology. Her doctoral dissertation (1998) was on the Château Vaux-le-Vicomte.

She has worked at the Cologne Museum of Applied Art since 1998, since 2000 as curator of the fashion and textiles as well as the glass and ceramics collections. Her research concentrates on architecture and the applied arts in the 17th and 18th centuries.

In 1999, she presented an exquisite private faience collection (Fayence aus Europa) in the Kölner Sammler stellen aus series.

Research projects on the history of fashion fruited in 2002 und 2003 in exhibitions accompanied by scholarly publications: Mode der 1950er Jahre – Schenkung Else und Ingeborg Heiliger and in. femme fashion 1780-2004 – Die Modellierung des Weiblichen in der Mode.

In 2005, she curated the exhibition Mode & Design aus Island. On the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the Ludwigsburg Porcelain Factory in 2008, she edited Glanz des Rokoko – Ludwigsburger Porzellan aus der Sammlung Jansen and curated the special exhibition of the same title.

In 2008, she devoted an exhibition and an accompanying catalogue entitled tex – Textiles von morgen to the work of the weaver Barbara Esser and the architect Wolfgang Horn.

To celebrate the 300th anniversary of the founding of the Meissen Porcelain Factory, in 2010, she curated a special exhibition of Meissen – Barockes Porzellan in Köln and edited the accompanying publication.

Michael Brix

Michael Brix, art historian and professor at the Munich University of Applied Sciences. Received a doctorate on Baroque festive decoration of the Habsburgs. Long-term engagement in the State Office for the Preservation of Historical Monuments in Bavaria; here he edited the volume ‘Niederbayern’ from the work Handbuch der deutschen Kunstmäler for the publisher Dehio. Michael Buhrs

Michael Buhrs is an art historian and, since 2007, director of the Museum Villa Stuck in Munich. Exhibitions he has curated include retrospectives of the work of Heribert C. Ottersbach, Christoph Brech and Cornelius Völker. He is currently working with his team on preparing a special Villa Stuck programme to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Franz von Stuck in 2013.

Beatriz Chadour-Sampson

is an international jewellery historian, scholarly author and lecturer. Her extensive publications range from Antiquity to the present day, such as the jewellery collection of the Museum für Angewandte Kunst, Cologne (1985) and 2000 Finger Rings from the Alice and Louis Koch Collection, Switzerland (1994) of which she continues to be consultant curator for the Swiss National Museum, Zurich.

She was consultant curator in the re-designing of the William and Judith Bollinger Jewellery Gallery at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, and guest curator of the Pearls exhibition.

Currently she is involved in the research of the Asenbaum Collection, in the Dallas Museum of Art.

Meredith Chilton

independent art historian, living in Lac-Brome, Quebec, Canada, who specializes in European porcelain; her other interests include culinary history and theater history.

She was the founding curator of the Gardiner Museum of Ceramic Art in Toronto from 1983 to 2004.

She has curated twenty exhibitions and worked on four short fi lms with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.

In addition, she has published extensively and lectured internationally, and she enjoys teaching.

She won three awards for her book Harlequin Unmasked: The Commedia dell’Arte and Porcelain Sculpture (2001) and was recently honored by having the Commedia dell’Arte Gallery in the Gardiner Museum named for her in perpetuity.

Meredith was the contributing Editor-in-Chief of the three volume monograph "Fired by Passion: Vienna Baroque Porcelain of Claudius Innocentius Du Paquier", published by Arnoldsche for the Melinda and Paul Sullivan Foundation for the Decorative Arts in September 2009. The English edition was launched at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York with a special exhibition, and the German edition launched at the Liechtenstein Museum in Vienna.

Meredith is currently working on a catalogue of the MaryLou Boone collection of French ceramics for the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens, San Marino.

Ralf Christofori

Ralf Christofori graduated in art history and philosophy followed by a PHD in art history in 2003. In 2005 he published his dissertation ‘Bild – Modell – Wirklichkeit’ on representation models in contemporary photography. From 1998 to 2000 he worked as curator at the Württembergischer Kunstverein Stuttgart, curating shows like ‘Colour me blind! Painting in Times of Computergames and Comics’ (1999) and ‘Night on Earth’ (2001).

He has been working as journalist and art critic for Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Der Tagesspiegel (Berlin), as well as Frieze, Kunst-Bulletin, Kunstforum International and Monopol. Over the years he has published several essays on contemporary art and culture.

Ralf Christofori lives and works in Stuttgart.

Edward S. Cooke Jr.

the Charles F. Montgomery Professor of American Decorative Arts in the Depart-
ment of the History of Art at Yale University, focuses upon American material culture and decorative arts.

He has published extensively on both historical and contemporary furniture. His 'Making Furniture in Pre-industrial America: The Social Economy of Newtown and Woodbury, Connecticut' explores the artisanal world of colonial and early national America, while some of his work on modern craft has historicized and explicated more recent forms of production.

This can be seen in his work as cocurator and publication author of five different exhibitions: 'New American Furniture' (Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, 1989); 'Inspiring Reform: Boston’s Arts and Crafts Movement' (Davis Museum, Wellesley College, 1997); 'Wood Turning in North America Since 1930' (Yale University Art Gallery, 2001); 'The Maker’s Hand: American Studio Furniture, 1940–1990' (Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, 2003); and 'Inspired by China: Contemporary Furnituremakers Explore Chinese Traditions' (Peabody Essex Museum, 2006).

Interest in the field of modern craft has also led to an important lead essay in 'American Art' as well as a role as one of the three founding editors of 'The Journal of Modern Craft'. More recently Cooke has explored the broader global context of material culture and exchange.

Michael R. Cunningham

A graduate in Far Eastern Art History from the University of Chicago, Michael R. Cunningham served as curator of Japanese and Korean Art as well as chief curator of Asian Art at The Cleveland Museum of Art before retirement. During that tenure he collaborated on special exhibition projects with the Agency for Cultural Affairs (Bunka-cho), Nara National Museum, and the National Palace Museum of Korea, among other endeavors.

Bernd Dicke

Born 1960 in Duisburg. Served an apprenticeship as a compositor and offset printer. Trained as a copperplate printer. Studied object and room design in Dortmund.
A collector, exhibition designer and organiser as well as a writer, he conducts in-depth research into modern lighting and furniture design, notably of the Bauhaus school, while investigating modern lifestyle issues and avant-garde phenomena. Bernd Dicke works as a research fellow in the Design Department at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Dortmund.

Helen Williams Drutt English

was Executive Director and a founding member of the Philadelphia Council of Professional Craftsmen (1967–
1974) and the Founder/Director of Helen Drutt Gallery in Philadelphia (1973–2002), among the first galleries in the United States to champion the modern and contemporary craft movement.

In 1973 she developed the syllabus for the first college-
level course in the history of that field, and over the past forty-five years, her archives have been an inter-
national resource for scholars and institutions. In 1984 she established the Maurice English Poetry Award. A contributor to numerous catalogues and books as well as a curatorial consultant, she has lectured internationally, served as a panelist for the NEA, and received awards and honorary degrees. She is a trustee of the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution; serves on the American Board, National Gallery of Australia, Canberra, Indian Art Committee, and Phila-
delphia Museum of Art; and is a curatorial consultant for the State Hermitage Museum. She is married to H. Peter Stem, cofounder of the Storm King Art Center.

Her work in the field continues as she organizes seminal exhibitions for museums internationally and contributes to numerous monographs. From 2003-2007, she served as a curatorial consultant to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, in support of their acquisition of her jewelry collection. In 1979 American Craft Magazine stat-
ed that her gallery was to crafts, what Alfred Stieglitz’s Gallery 291 was to photo-
graphy early in the twentieth century.

Trinelise Dysthe

Trinelise Dysthe is an interior designer (MNIL) and employee of DystheDesign AS. She has worked for Aftenposten as a design critic and columnist, and has over the years contributed numerous articles about design, architecture and the environment to other journals and magazines. She is co-author of the books 'Hjemme i Norge' [At Home in Norway] (1994) and 'Tingenes århundre' [The Century of the Object] (2003).
